Jason Kidd Named Head Coach of Dallas Mavericks
10th Head Coach in Franchise History
Kidd Inducted into Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame
The Dallas Mavericks have named Jason Kidd as their 10th head coach in franchise history. Kidd, a Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame inductee, was officially introduced on June 28, 2021.
The Mavericks are owned by Mark Cuban, and Nico Harrison is their general manager. Kidd replaces Rick Carlisle, who resigned after 13 seasons at the helm.
Prior to joining the Mavericks, Kidd was the head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks for three seasons. He compiled a record of 139-152 and led the team to the playoffs twice.
Kidd was a star point guard during his playing career, which spanned from 1994 to 2013. He was a 10-time All-Star and was named to the NBA All-Defensive First Team five times. Kidd was also a member of the U.S. Olympic team that won gold medals in 2000 and 2008.
Kidd will be tasked with leading the Mavericks back to the playoffs after they missed out last season. The team is led by young stars Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis, and Kidd will be hoping to help them reach their full potential.
