Harold Watson Trey Gowdy III was born on August 22, 1964, in Greenville, South Carolina. He grew up in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and is the son of Hal and Novalene Gowdy. Gowdy has three sisters and attended Spartanburg High School.
Political Career
After graduating from law school, Gowdy began his political career as a prosecutor in Spartanburg. He was elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives in 1994 and served until 2000.
In 2000, Gowdy was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from South Carolina's 4th congressional district. He served in the House until 2019, during which time he became chairman of the House Oversight Committee. Gowdy's tenure as chairman was marked by his investigation into the 2012 Benghazi attacks.
Television Career
After retiring from Congress, Gowdy joined Fox News as a television news presenter. He hosts the show "Justice with Judge Jeanine" and also appears as a guest host on other Fox News programs.
