In iOS 17.2, Apple has enhanced the dependability of emergency alerts on iPhone. Governmental alerts are enabled by default, while public safety, emergency, and Amber alerts should already be activated on your iPhone and Apple Watch.
Types of Emergency Alerts
There are three types of government alerts that you may receive on your iPhone if you reside in the United States:
- Imminent threat alerts are the most severe, indicating an imminent threat to life or property.
- Public safety alerts are less serious, but still important, such as amber alerts or weather alerts.
- Broadcast Emergency Response alerts (in partnership with FEMA) are similar to imminent threat alerts, but may not have an immediate impact on your area.
By understanding these emergency alerts, you can stay informed and take appropriate action in the event of an emergency.
