Harris Seen as a Formidable Opponent
Instead of facing President Biden, Donald J. Trump and his team will be campaigning against Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election. Harris, at 59, is significantly younger than Trump, who is 78, and has a reputation for avoiding the missteps and rambles that have characterized Trump's presidency.
Harris, a former prosecutor and California senator, has been planning to run for president for years. She has a strong record of accomplishments, including passing legislation to reduce recidivism and providing funding for affordable housing. Among women of color, Harris outperformed Biden by 10 points in a recent poll, with 63% of women of color saying they backed Harris over Trump, compared with 53% who said they supported Biden.
The leading pro-Trump super PAC, MAGA Inc., has launched a new 30-second spot that previewing the plan of attack against Harris. The polling that has been published has her performing similarly or slightly better to Joe Biden. For example, a New York Times-Siena poll this month found Harris beating Trump by 5 points.
